Big Opening Day at Belmont for South Point Sales & Rockbridge Bloodstock

Belmont Park opened its Fall Championship meeting on Friday, September 6 and the card was dominated by South Point Sales & Rockbridge Bloodstock-associated runners.

Good Credence got the ball rolling with 6 3/4-length Maiden Special score in the second race. The 2-year-old daughter of Spendthrift Farm’s Jimmy Creed was purchased out of the 2018 South Point Sales Keeneland September consignment for $26,000.

After a 6th-place run in her debut at Monmouth Park in July, Good Credence has rapidly improved, running 2nd in an August 2 Maiden Special at Saratoga before her breakthrough victory at Belmont.

Rockbridge Bloodstock also purchased the dam of Good Credence, Undertheinfluence, for just $1,200 at the 2018 Keeneland November. She was bred to Preakness Stakes hero Cloud Computing in 2019.

Another sharp winner out of a Rockbridge Bloodstock-purchased mare, Nettleton, got his picture taken just two races later.

The juvenile son of Kantharos out of the Mr. Greeley daughter Miss Stonestreet was purchased for $320,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale in March after a sharp breeze in :10 1/5.

In no hurry out of the gate, he stayed in touch with the leaders through early fractions of :22.33 and :45.83 to finally surge his way to the front in the lane. Once there, he dug in with determination to pass pacesetting Verrazano First and hold off the closing Now Is by a half-length.

Rockbridge purchased Miss Stonestreet for Louisiana breeder Bobby Mahoney for $3,000 at the 2018 OBS Winter Mixed auction. She’s been paired with Medaglia d’Oro stallion G. W.’s d’Oro.
