FT-July Grad Lemniscate Caps Huge Weekend for South Point Sales

March 4, 2019 – “Another one who’s going to be a big time horse!”

That’s what South Point Sales co-owner Mike Recio said after Lemniscate crossed the finish line first in a grassy 1 1/16-mile Maiden Special contest at Gulfstream Park.

Recio has plenty to be excited about as Lemniscate was the fourth promising winner on the weekend sold by South Point Sales. Stubbins, winner of the March 3 Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita was the headliner.

Lemniscate was purchased for $145,000 out of the South Point Sales consignment at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale. The colt by Exchange Rate debuted with a solid 4th in a 6-furlong dirt sprint on January 19 and has steadily improved with a 2nd under similar conditions on February 9. His victory on March 3 was his turf debut and he handled the surface beautifully, cruising to a 1-length victory in wire-to-wire fashion.

One day earlier, In Charge Annie was awarded the win after a rough stretch duel with Grandezza in an 8-furlong Maiden Special at Fair Grounds. The daughter of Will Take Charge was bred by Glen View Oaks, LLC and races in the colors of Ike and Dawn Thrash, who purchased the filly from South Point Sales at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling auction.

Proud Emma, another graduate of the 2017 South Point September draft, scored in an Allowance/Optional Claimer at Sant Anita that same afternoon.

A 3-year-old daughter of Include, Proud Emma was bred by Brereton C. Jones and is now owned by Gem Inc., Last Call Racing and Steven Tartaglione. She’s won 3 of her 5 outings.

Stubbins was yet another to emerge from that stellar 2017 South Point Keeneland September consignment. His victory in the Pasadena Stakes was his 3rd from 5 starts and put his bankroll at $146,400. His connections are looking forward to much more in the future.

“He’s going up the ladder now—getting better and better with each race. This was huge today,” said Leandro Mora, trainer Doug O’Neill’s top assistant.

South Point Sales graduates now number 17 total winners of 20 races through the first 62 days of 2019.
