June 14, 2018 – Hangman, who showed high promise when third in his April 22, broke through in his second outing with a stylish Maiden Special score at Belmont Park.
Adding blinkers for the 7-furlong turf contest, Hangman broke sharply and found a good spot on the outside just off the leaders in third. He hit the gas with a three-wide move at the top of the stretch, took over shortly thereafter and had 1 3/4 lengths over Shadwell Farm’s Hizeem at the wire.
Hangman was sold by South Point Sales for $105,000 at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling sale. The Scat Daddy son was bred and raised by South Point partners James & Janeane Everatt and Arika Everatt-Meeuse who operate Shannondoe Farm in Ontario, Canada. He’s a full brother to Graded Stakes winner Conquest Daddyo, an earner of $320,716 and a half-brother to Stakes winner Hangingbyathread ($307,630).

Four races earlier on that same Belmont card, the 2-year-old filly Native Dawn rolled to a 5 3/4-length debut victory. The Morning Line miss is out of the Harlan’s Holiday mare Imanativenewyorker. She was mated by Pat Durtschi on advice of Rockbridge Bloodstock, South Point’s bloodstock division. South Point Sales sold the mare, pregnant with Native Dawn, at the 2015 Keeneland November sale.
The following afternoon at Gulfstream Park the South Point weanling graduate Sierra Aleone broke through with a sharp Maiden Special score. Making her two-turn debut, the sophomore filly showed good early speed from post 10. The Mark Casse trainee was two lengths clear at the head of the lane and held well for a 3/4-length tally under Edgar Zayas. A filly by Gemologist, Sierra Aleone was sold by South Point Sales for $47,000 at the 2016 Keeneland November auction.
