South Point Yearlings Impress at The Saratoga Yearling Sales

Three yearlings from the South Point Sales consignment brought six figures at the prestigious Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling sale.

A pair of colts bred by in Ontario by Shannondoe Farm proved especially popular.

Hip 7, a Shannondoe-bred Tiznow colt (pictured below), commanded a final bid of $275,000 from leading owner Live Oak Plantation during the August 6 opening session. The gorgeous bay is out of the Jules mare Jules Best, the dam of stakes winner Conquest Boogaloo. His price tag is the second-highest for a 2018 Tiznow summer yearling.

The following evening Hip 131 (pictured below) brought $225,000 from Cromwell Bloodstock. The flashy chestnut is a half brother to a pair of stakes winners and was given plenty of time to develop by Shannodoe Farm’s Arika Everatt-Meeuse in consultation with South Point’s Mike Recio.

“I think a lot of people held them back because (Palace Malice) didn’t have that many sell as foals,” Recio told the Blood-Horse prior to the auction. “You knew they were going to keep moving forward, so why cash out too early? This is a big, strong, two-turn horse that looks like he’ll be quick.”
