A pair of Racing/Broodmare prospects commanded $500,000 and $480,000, respectively at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton November sale and a $150,000 Exaggerator weanling at Keeneleand November highlighted an exceptional bloodstock sales season for South Point Sales.
The stakes-winning/Graded-placed Thundering Sky (Hip #144) was scooped up for $500,000 by Spendthrift Farm midway through the Fasig-Tipton November auction. The 5-year-old daughter of Sky Mesa earned nearly as much on the track for owner Matthew Schera and trainer George Weaver.
Later in the evening, Hip #249 was purchased by Ran Jan Racing for $480,000. The 4-year-old daughter of More Than Ready was a stakes winner this season in the colors of Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc.
South Point also sold a weanling daughter of Lemon Drop Kid (Hip #67) for $125,000 to pinhooker Nick De Meric. The price is by far the highest for a 2018 Lemon Drop Kid foal.
Across town in Lexington, Kentucky at the Keeneland November sale, South Point sold one of the most popular weanlings from the first crop by Exaggerator. Hip #850, an Exaggerator colt, was hammered down to Linda Rice, agent for $150,000. That figure represents the third-highest bid for a weanling by the 2016 Preakness Stakes (G1) hero.
