Rockbridge Bloodstock recommended mating & South Point Sales grad Stubbins made a successful transition to turf capturing a 6 1/2-furlong Maiden Special contest at Santa Anita on January 6,
The son of Morning Line showed talent on the dirt in his first two starts, running 3rd in his debut to a pair of future Stakes performers and then 2nd to the highly-touted Bob Baffert runner Tale of the Union, a $925,000 juvenile purchase.
In start number three for trainer Doug O’Neill down the unique Santa Anita hillside grass course, Stubbins settled well for jockey Flavien Prat. The colt then accelerated down the lane to get the money by a nose.
Stubbins earned a sparkling 97 Equibase Speed Rating for the performance and kicked off what promises to be another strong year for Rockbridge Bloodstock and South Point Sales-connected runners. In 2018 Rockbridge/South Point was represented by 80 winners of 130 races, including Kentucky Derby points earner Dunph and Woodbine Stakes winner She’s the Berries.
